Cruz is a lovely little boy that came into NASAP's care from a partner pound. We don't know anything about his history, but he was a very sick little guy when he came to us. We believe Cruz started out with a combination of upper respiratory virus and deformed/inward-turned eyelids. The constant irritation of the lashes on his eye led to a secondary bacterial infection and severe damage to his left eye. It was likely so infected and ulcerated that it ruptured. His right eye is still there but it is extremely cloudy and scarred. Our partner vet is not sure if his remaining eye will be salvageable but it appears like he still has some vision. He is now receiving badly needed medical care including strong oral antibiotics, antibiotic eye drops and an antiviral gel. Other than his eye issues, he is a completely normal kitten. He is eating well and has good weight. Despite what must be a terribly painful condition, Cruz is happy, cuddly and completely sweet. He never complains, even when he is wrapped up like a kitty burrito to take his medications. All he does is purr the whole time because he loves anything that seems like a close cuddle. He's a very good boy about everything being done to/for him. The next step for Cruz is to have a consultation and exam with the local specialist/opthamologist at Guardian to determine next steps. He will need surgery on one or both eyes at the time of his neuter. This surgery will be costly and his care will be ongoing while we try to return him to stable state of health and find him a forever home. Please donate today and note that it is designated for Cruz! Thank you!
